When visiting Solo Aviation, be sure to admire the new mural in the southeast stairwell.
The mural was painted by Ann Arbor artist Zeke Mallory, known for his art and signs around the area, including a mural of the ocean on the wall of the former Tios restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor.
The mural was commissioned during the installation of the flight school's full-motion Redbird FMX simulator in June 2012. The stairwell, which leads to the simulator, gives pilots something to appreciate on their way to their virtual flights.
The mural features an aerial view of the Ann Arbor and includes hot air balloons and airplanes. One of the prominent features in the mural is the University of Michigan Stadium, "the Big House," which is a popular destination for sightseeing flights. Also prominent in the mural is a Diamond DA42, a multi-engine airplane in Solo Aviation's fleet.
For pilots, the mural is a reminder of the roads, rivers, and buildings they see from the air. For non-pilots, it is a chance to enjoy the beauty of the city and the aircraft that fly around it.
